Streets Overview
Public Works provides maintenance to approximately 36 lane-miles of asphalt road, ROW and alleys. This includes pothole patching, striping, traffic control devices such as signs and traffic control signals, street sweeping (PDF), snow management, and maintenance of surface and storm drainage facilities.
Parking Regulations and Restrictions
The Town of Fraser prohibits parking in any portion of the public ROW (November thru April) such as vehicles or obstacles which impedes snow plowing operations and may be ticketed and/or towed at the owners expense. This is most important during the snow months of November through April, as it allows snow removal crews to perform these operations efficiently and safely.
Private Snow Plowing Operations
It is the responsibility of all property owners to keep that portion of sidewalk(s) adjoining their property clear of snow and ice. In addition, property owners are prohibited from pushing, placing or storing snow in or onto the public ROW and must place said snow back on to their property. In addition, property owners are also responsible for clearing the snow berm left behind in their driveways following the Town snow plowing operations, which could occur more than once during a 24-hour period.
Fleet and Equipment
Fraser maintains a fleet of approximately 21 different types of vehicles ranging from light duty to heavy duty and specialty snow and ice fighting attachments such as snow boxes for pushing snow and straight blades for cutting ice pack:
- Three medium duty four-wheel-drive snow and ice trucks
- Three wheel loaders
- One skid steer loader with attachments
- One motor grader with benching wing
- One mini-excavator
- One tandem axle 12-yard dump truck
- One street sweeper
- 10 miscellaneous light-duty utility trucks and staff vehicles.
Access Permits for Excavations in the Rights-of-way
Access Permits are required whenever there is work being planned in the public right-of-ways (ROW) to ensure that the integrity of our streets and shoulders are maintained in a "like new" condition. Obtain and complete an Access Permit Application; schedule an appointment to process the permit with the PW Administrator. Please be sure to have the proper amount and method of payment (cash, money order or company check) with you at the time you are scheduled. A site plan is required. All forms submitted to the Town must contain original signatures. We do not accept Access Permit forms electronically. An approved traffic control plan must be provided with the application and maintained on site in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
Streetscapes
The Town maintains many areas throughout its boundaries including landscape planters and beds, seasonal decorations, public facilities including parks and picnic areas and over 120 acres of open space throughout town.
